True 1st edition, New Directions.  Lavender boards toned, fading of Williams' name on spine, some foxing visible on front & rear; bumping/rubbing to board edges & corners.  Prior owner's name on front free end paper & back free end paper, bookstore sticker on bottom of the former page; some foxing to front & rear pastedowns, text clean, binding firm.  Artwork by Alvin Lustig with true 1st edition identification points existent: no further printings listed & boards lavender rather than red (as in subsequent printings & bookclub editions).  One of Williams' more sought-after printings lacking its original dust jacket.
